Axis

Axis

I've come here

pallid,
fevered
to sit silent and
umoving in the sun;
to see the glaring shield
this tortured lake,
in sunlight, wields;
to listen close to
nothing in particluar
and every thing at all.

I spin on an axis oblique,
tread the earth on uncertain feet,
and delcare,
en sotto vocce,

that mine is no strangling vine
that on your trembling trellis climbs.

The open sky is upon me
and there is no shelter here...

save that beneath my
imbricated dreams.
